Domaine Galus in Costières de Nîmes
Domaine Galus

The birth of Domaine Galus is the result of a long creative process. The story of this construction begins with a meeting between two souls. Life circumstances mean that Fanette FESSY and Jean-Baptiste PAQUET are in high school and discover that they share the same dream: to invent, create and mature wine.

They both come from long lines of independent Burgundian winemakers. Quality wine has always been a source of inspiration, an elixir of freshness reviewed annually in their respective family circles. Becoming masters of their own winemaking is obvious to both of them, a shared need to fulfill themselves. Their union is made of natural tenderness and judicious complementarity.

The famous rolled pebbles of Costières

his terroir is more particularly made up of large rolled pebbles, locally called Gress. These famous ovoid pebbles have existed for centuries and were rounded by the ancient past of the Rhône or the Durance, its tributary. Free, they are very visible on the surface which allows, during the ripening period of the grapes, to store heat during the day to release it at night. These round stones share the space in depth with a reddish earth, sometimes sandy, easy to work. The roots of the vines go down there to seek freshness without difficulty, thus protecting themselves from the heavy periods of summer drought. This constitution of the land is also a boon for absorbing the rainy anger of the sky. These famous violent episodic storms that are called meteorologically "Mediterranean episodes" or "Cévennes episodes".
