Cave John Euvrard Sélection, Lyon
In Lyon, the John Euvrard Sélection cellar is an institution. Created in 2010 by Arnaud Thévenet and John Euvrard, Meilleur Ouvrier de France and former sommelier of Paul Bocuse, it is located on the banks of the Saône, in the heart of gourmet Lyon.
On the shelves, there are some 500 references, classified by type of wine rather than by region, which evolve according to the vintages and the new discoveries of Arnaud and John.
Some winegrowers, however, appear to be indestructible. This is the case of Michel Gassier, in AOC Costières de Nîmes, whose wines Arnaud says are “among the best value for money in the cellar”.
Lou Coucardié 2013 (mourvèdre 49 %, grenache 35 %, syrah 16 %)
“We have several references to the cellar but I really like this vintage. It is a very dark red which has just the right amount of power and tannic structure to accompany – it is in season – autumn game which can be cooked in sauce, with mushrooms for example. It’s also a wine that I would recommend with a juicy bull stew, to be enjoyed during a feria of course.”
