Château Bellefontaine in Costières de Nîmes
Château Bellefontaine

Located in the South of France, between the Camargue and the Mediterranean Sea, Château Bellefontaine is located in the commune of Beauvoisin, at the southern end of the Rhône Valley.

Historically, at the beginning of the 19th century when the vineyards appeared in Costières, the tractor did not exist: man traveled on foot and used horses.

The vineyard of what will become Bellefontaine is then “an hour” away from the village: going back and forth every day is not possible; the workers eat on site in a mazet built for them and their horses. The choice of the location where all the buildings of the Château will be built little by little is not the result of chance: Château Bellefontaine was built near an artesian spring, hence the name given a few years later to this place.

Today the fountain no longer exists, but if you approach the well, remaining silent, you will hear the water flowing 8 meters underground. Purchased in 2010 by the Bosse-Platière and Soulairac families, the estate will undergo significant improvements both in its vineyard and its buildings. While retaining the soul of this remarkable not-listed building, the entire property has been renovated to make it a wine tourism site.
