Mas Mellet
Mas Mellet is located at the very end. At the very end of the Rhône Valley. At the very end of Costières de Nîmes. Where the vines and the pebble soils of the Rhône are about to give way to the ponds of the Camargue, the bulls and the rice fields. This little part of the world, this border between two universes, Émilie and Brice Bolognini, young winegrowers in search of a land in which to settle, fell in love with it in 2003, conquered by the old Carignan and by the light of the ponds of Gallician at midday.
It is therefore here, on a necessarily saline terroir, that Émilie and Brice have transformed a farm which only produced bulk products into an estate whose gourmet wines are loved by gourmets. “At first, we wanted massive and powerful wines,” says Brice..
This bias is also coupled with the choice to cultivate organically the seventeen hectares in production, eight of old vines (including Carignan planted in 1948, particularly pampered, as well as Syrah) and nine which have been replanted with Grenache. “We don’t use chemical inputs, we let the grass grow and sheep come to graze in the winter. In short, our wines are as natural as possible,” explains Brice. A desire for authenticity that can be found even in the names of the vintages, such as Pari Finesse or Pari Tendresse, which are all invitations to the pleasures of tasting.
