Château Vessière
Thirty-year-old Vincent Teulon cut his teeth in California before returning home to look after, alongside his father Philippe, the 65 hectares of a property that has been in the Teulon family for seven generations.
Since then, the vineyard, located in the city of Saint-Gilles, at the gateway to the Camargue, has became organic. As a result, the only inputs to the vines are “products of natural origin such as sulfur dioxide and copper sulfate”, explains Vincent, to which are added, increasingly, treatments inspired by biodynamics, such as clay, fennel oil or sweet orange essential oils.
The work in the cellar gives life to several ranges, including two in AOC Costières de Nîmes: the Château Vessière vintages (available in red, rosé and white) and the Philippe de Vessière vintages (available in red and white), several of which have been critically acclaimed. The 2012 Philippe de Vessière red vintage was rated 91/100 by Wine Enthusiast while the 2013 Château Vessière Tradition red vintage received two stars in the 2016 Hachette Guide.
Vigneron d’hôtes
Vincent’s efforts also focus on hospitality. With Lucie, his wife, he created Mas Vessière, an extraordinary 200 m² gîte, which they both set up in the former house of the estate’s grape pickers. The spirit: white stones on the floor, lime wall coatings, antique decor, jacuzzi and swimming lane among the vines…
Anxious to make his work known, he has also traced an educational trail in the middle of the vineyards, access to which is free, in order to invite people to read the wine landscape, and has developed several types of workshops, ranging from Introduction to tasting with an in-depth oenology course.
